One night, one location, every gang in New York City and a leader. Cyrus represented all the gangs in New York, he was their leader, and his mission was to conquer. Hoping to bring everyone together, to squash all the beef, for he wanted to takeover the whole city. So sure of himself that if every gang works together… They can take over the police.
2Pac. One of the greatest. Not only did he bring us his insightful lyrics and unique flows. He carried a name that spread so much in my house, might as well name one of my brothers Tupac. Raised in a house like that, I was obviously the coolest 5th Grader. It was then that my father had first shown me “The Warriors” and I was also going through(still am) a huge 90s hip hop phase. Aren’t we all? Throughout his short life, 2Pac made sure to let the world know that he wasn’t affiliated with any gangs. More specifically Bloods or Crips.
2Pac wasn’t apart of any of them. What did the “THUG LIFE” mean for him?
Shakur was one for distinctive thoughts and ideas. Believe it or not… At the age of 10, I was the only one that knew the meaning of “T.H.U.G L.I.F.E”. “The Hate You Give Little infants Fucks Everything.” Meaning, Tupac knew that the futur of today is tomorrow. Therefor he knows that the infants are the futur. If they breath hate and negativity, that’s what fucks up the futur. To love instead of hate.
Spreading the word to my friends about my recent film epiphanies at Hebrew school wasn’t really my best decision, but those poor kids… They had never even heard of Scarface! That was after trying to talk about “The Warriors”. What did you expect?
Growing up in a house with the smell of 2pacs music in the air and our collection of the great films. Thanks to Papa… One glorious evening… I was introduced to a film that is no doubt in my Top 5. “The Warriors” opened my eyes to a whole different meaning of gangster. I learned that the physically strongest in the group is sometimes the weakest one mentally. He carried the group fighting wise, but when it came to women… His mind was in another world. Which led to… **Spoiler alert** let’s just say some jail time.
It also introduced me to the most badass line ever! The baseball furie(other gang member) approches him with a baseball bat, sweating off his face paint, eager to hurt a warrior. Then the warrior says “I’ll shove that bat so far up your ass, I’ll turn you into a popsicle stick.” When watching that scene, trust me… Goosebumps.
Tupac Shakur led us to the idea of Bloods and Crips joining together. Sound familiar?
Strangely… Later on, Tupac Shakur was murdered.
