City of Angels

At the age of twelve years old, he saw himself as an artist and started getting paid for art jobs… That’s at twelve years old.

Netflix’s “LA Originals” follows the history of Mister Cartoon and photographer Estevan Oriol. “Mister Cartoon” as they called him, started as a graffiti Artist, a talented one might I add! He moved on to being a tattoo artist. NOT JUST A TATTOOO ARTIST! He was known by all the biggest rappers, singers, influencers, and many other talented celebrities. He marked Los Angeles forever with his beautiful art and the exquisite details he expressed. Everyone knew this guy! He filmed was filmed a lot. A lot of his own experiences, he shares with us in the movie. The things he’s done over his life, boggles my mind! A true historical artist of Los Angeles.

The world famous photographer Estevan Oriol, born and raised in Los Angeles, originated from Mexican and Italian descent. Wherever Cartoon was going, Oriol was there. They ride together all the time, Estevan captured some of the most incredible pictures, the kind of pictures that make your jaw drop. He always finds away to catch the finest angle and the best moments to take the picture!

Being born in LA, but not raised, this was a simple history lesson… But it was actually interesting. It conveys the transformation of Los Angeles throughout the last couple decades. We perceived a greater understanding of how the street life and gang life sort of evolved, it didn’t matter about being gangster anymore, it was about showing your talent and all comes after.

Will LA today ever be the way it was back then? It’s a new era, music has changed, people have changed, streets are different now…
