“Rockers” film
This 1978 masterpiece focuses on the struggles and the life of hustling in the deep ends of Jamaica. A Rasta by the name of “Horsemouth” living day by day, hustling the streets with the crew. The day finally came, Horsemouth spent all of his money and savings on a red Motorcycle. Just one night after buying it, it was stolen. All these Reggae musicians playing as themselves, getting together to focus on the real problem. Getting back at the local mafia for robbing him.
Throughout the film, we slowly get deeper understandings of the responsibilities and the way of life of a Rastafarite. Also a glimpse of the different lifestyles being shown in the film. Leroy Wallace(Horsemouth), is closely connected to his buddies Jacob Miller, Gregory Isaacs, Burning Spear. All incredible Raggae Musicians, close friends with Horsemouth. Brought together to take down a local “Mafia Boy”, as they called it.
After getting back what’s rightfully his, the crew decides to carry out all of his(the mafia boy) belongings, like the TV’s, stereos, records… In the end, just to leave them out for people to take. How did they do this? With the help of Sunshine. The unhappy daughter of the “Mafia Boy” was simply charmed by the smooth talking of Leroy Wallace. She simply couldn’t resist being called the cultured girl that she is from a Rasta. The deep tracks of Bob Marley playing throughout the film, you can feel the sun shining all the way from the Trenches…
A rock rolls. It rolls and rolls, if something comes in front of it, the rock will push it away with all its force just to keep on rolling. These Rockers stand for something with much greatness. Separating themselves from governments, methodical takeovers… A Rocker is a Rebel… We don’t serve anyone but I and I.
